Inside this prototype version of Sonic 2, there was a long standing belief these sprites belonged to the long lost desert level. However, due to research and time, this was proven to be nothing but leftovers from the game that was on the Genesis chips prior to Sonic 2. That game happened to be Chiki Chiki boys.
