One of the most horrid things to happen to a good game is to have it "ported" to another system, then "upgraded". Normally this means "sell the same shit, but fucked up." This was the case with Spiderman vs. The Kingpin for the Sega CD. The spiced it up, added audio tracks in Qsound, (Sega CD games LOVED Qsound) and added some full motion video that can be at the most be called "uber-vomit-feces". But this wasn't allways the case. This page is devoted to a rare prototype of Spiderman CD for Sega CD, very early in production.
DIFFERENCES

First off, in the prototype, this screen isn't there. There is no title screen. When the game starts, it goes directly into the intro FMV (picture from final version)

Also, these options from the final version aren't added yet. (picture from final version)

The loading screen hasn't been added yet either. (picture from final version)

End icons haven't been added yet. (picture from final version)

Channel 42 is a lot smaller in the prototype, and the dorways have 4 sides, instead of a missing side like the final. Spiderman appears right over this 4th side when walking through a doorway.

The forklift from the Genesis version is still intact!

The full warehouse level from the Genesis version is still used in the prototype

There's a level where allmost all the buildings are completely made of glass.

On the left is how the level starts, on the right is what happens when you jump. (The colors change)

Mary Jane was changed quite a bit in the opening FMV. She had giant ass lips, and man shoulders.

Looks like she could use those for a raft.

damn.

I don't recall these motorcycle chicks in the final game (Could be wrong)

Spidermna doesn't slip on the glass, like in the Genesis version.

Pause screens are completely different.

The graffiti on the lower right doesn't appear in the final.

The purse snatching scene

Graphics have been completely altered in the levels

in the prototype (left) the badguys smoke, in the final (right) they don't.

The map says "spideytech 9000" in the prototype (left), in the final it doesn't (right)

In the prototype, you can jump right off the front of the subway train while fighting vulture. (You can't tell by these pics, but the level background is wrapping over and over to make the train appear moving)

AND IT CRASHES!

It looks like he's dropping, but he's actually stuck like that.

and perminently stuck here

Stupid signs like this are everywhere

Venom randomly appears here
