One of the most horrid things to happen to a good game is to have it "ported" to another system, then "upgraded". Normally this means "sell the same shit, but fucked up." This was the case with Spiderman vs. The Kingpin for the Sega CD. The spiced it up, added audio tracks in Qsound, (Sega CD games LOVED Qsound) and added some full motion video that can be at the most be called "uber-vomit-feces". But this wasn't allways the case. This page is devoted to a rare prototype of Spiderman CD for Sega CD, very early in production.
DIFFERENCES

Text of different kinds popup to provide information.

The levels are poorly designed with dead ends randomly.

Dock Ock hasn't been added

The dogs in the prototype (left) can't be harmed like the Genesis version, in the final version (Right) the can be webbed up

In the end area, you have to fight ALL bosses instead of a few at a time.

Graffiti can be found all over the subways in the prototype, but was completely removed from the final. There are also no enemies in the subway. This graffiti says: "Death Angels"

This is the only graffiti that made it to the final.

"Thor is a fairy"

"Bubsy is a Furball"

"Kingpin is a bump"

"Truth or dare" and "bucky"

an anarchist's symbol.

The sniper is really strange in the prototype (Continued...)

you get to close to him, the game freezes for a second, the music stops, he has an animation where he sets his gun down, changes color, starts waving his hands, then...

the music resets and starts again, and he moves to the side, without any animation at all. Just a singular movement. (This only happens once a level.)

These yellow guys can not be hurt in the prototype (left), but in the final (right) you can whip thier ass.

The gorilla is back!

And he's turning purple when a web hits him

Sandman is stuck in this area, and can't be drawn back to the beginning area where the fire hydrant is. (Which you need to use to defeat him

this robot can't be webbed in the prototype, it can only be punched. And when it blows up, it keeps moving in the direction it was facing.
